your name. begins with two teenagers experiencing each other’s lives. The city-country contrast is only the opening layer of a story in which memories, messages and missing time become increasingly important.
The premise before the major reveal
The film’s official site introduces Mitsuha in a rural mountain town and Taki in Tokyo. What seems at first to be a dream becomes repeated bodily exchange, with notes helping them negotiate the disruption. When the exchanges stop, Taki sets out to find Mitsuha. MADB records the original Japanese release on 26 August 2016.
