Princess Mononoke
Princess Mononoke places a wounded traveller between an iron-producing community and a forest inhabited by powerful beings. Its conflict is worth approaching as a clash of needs, rather than a simple landscape-versus-villain story.
Who is in conflict
The official distributor introduces Ashitaka, seeking relief from a curse, into the struggle between Lady Eboshi’s Iron Town and the wolf-raised San. Studio Ghibli identifies the work as a Hayao Miyazaki film; the original Japanese release in MADB is 12 July 1997.

An editorial question to carry into the film
Watch how a place can provide security for one group while threatening another. Compare the roles of labour and technology with Castle in the Sky, then ask where each story places responsibility. These are interpretive prompts for viewing, not quotations from the filmmakers or a summary of the ending.

Version and audience cautions
This is a battle-filled fantasy with violent imagery, so do not use Totoro as its suitability benchmark. GKIDS describes a newer 4K remaster supervised by Studio Ghibli’s Atsushi Okui; that restoration is a later presentation of the 1997 film, not a new story. Confirm the specific version and local rating in a cinema or disc listing.
